> Valve's September 2026 data shows 32GB of system memory has surpassed 16GB as the most common configuration among Steam users.

[Valve](<https://hardwarebrief.com/entity/valve-corporation-q193559>) has released the September 2026 **Steam Hardware and Software Survey**, revealing that 32GB has officially overtaken 16GB as the most common system-memory capacity. The voluntary data also shows [Windows 11](<https://hardwarebrief.com/entity/windows-11-q107269746>) and [NVIDIA](<https://hardwarebrief.com/entity/nvidia-q182477>) hardware maintaining their dominance.

Storage trends shifted significantly this month, with systems reporting over 1TB of total capacity reaching 53.30%. Notably, machines with more than 4TB of free space rose by 4.06 percentage points to 7.28%, though NAND and interface types remain unspecified.

This shift toward higher memory and storage tiers reflects evolving hardware requirements for modern PC gaming. While the sampled data does not track memory speeds or latencies, the 32GB milestone marks a major transition for the broader [Steam](<https://hardwarebrief.com/entity/steam-service-q337535>) user base.
