Framework has officially ended its One Key Module program, a project originally announced during the Laptop 16 2nd-gen launch. Developed with Lite-On, the initiative aimed to let developers create custom keyboard layouts using individual key modules.
The company cited manufacturing complexity, fragility, and high assembly costs for the cancellation. Yield issues and slim form factor constraints meant that redesigns to improve durability would exceed the physical dimensions of the Framework Laptop 16.
Despite the end of this program, Framework will launch a ZMK-powered Wireless Keyboard Control Board for developers. The company continues to support its community by providing documentation for its QMK fork on GitHub for future custom input projects.
