Leaker Golden Pig Upgrade reports on Weibo that 4GB and 6GB GDDR7 memory chips may arrive by 2027 or 2028. While current consumer GPUs rely on 2GB modules, these high-density chips would significantly increase VRAM capacity for next-generation hardware designs.
High costs for 3GB GDDR7 modules have reportedly delayed the RTX 5050 9GB and RTX 50 SUPER refresh. Currently, 3GB chips are limited to niche products like the RTX 5090 Laptop GPU and RTX PRO 6000, while the standard RTX 5050 uses four 2GB chips for 8GB total.
These upcoming modules will transform memory configurations. Four 4GB chips could enable 16GB of VRAM, while four 6GB chips would provide 24GB on a 128-bit interface. Furthermore, an eight-chip setup using 4GB modules would deliver 32GB on a 256-bit interface.
