# NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX Turns 20 Years Old

November 6, 2026 at 10:10 AM

> NVIDIA celebrates the 20th anniversary of the G80 architecture with a new path-traced tech demo honoring the legendary GeForce 8800 GTX.

**NVIDIA** launched the **GeForce 8800 GTX** on November 5, 2006, debuting the **G80** chip and **CUDA** architecture. Built on a 90nm process, the $599 card featured 128 CUDA cores, a 576 MHz clock rate, and 768 MB of GDDR3 memory operating across a 384-bit bus interface.

The GPU delivered 86 GB/s of memory bandwidth and required two 6-pin connectors to meet its 155W power rating. It supported DirectX 10, Shader Model 4.0, and OpenGL 3.3. XFX was among the manufacturers producing this PCIe 1.0 x16 card for the enthusiast market.

To celebrate the hardware, NVIDIA released a Steam demo by artist **Dylan Browne** titled GeForce 8800 GTX - 20 Years of a Legend. The Unreal Engine project showcases modern tech like Path Tracing, DLSS 4.5, and RTX Mega Geometry on the classic G80 architecture.
