# Ryzen 9 9950X3D Fails on ASUS X670E Motherboard

September 8, 2026 at 11:58 AM

> A Ryzen 9 9950X3D processor suffered physical damage and failure after applying a BIOS memory preset on an ASUS CROSSHAIR X670E Hero.

A **Ryzen** 9 9950X3D processor failed after one hour of use in an **ASUS** CROSSHAIR X670E Hero motherboard. After selecting a hardcoded RAM preset in the **BIOS**, the system displayed error code 00. Physical inspection revealed two brown marks on the failed CPU.

The user utilized an ASUS UEFI preset for SK Hynix 6,200MHz modules without manual voltage or overclocking adjustments. A secondary Ryzen 5 8500G also failed in the same board with error code 4D. The motherboard was running the latest available BIOS version.

This hardware failure occurred despite the CPU previously working in an ASRock X670E Taichi Carrara. With no bent pins found on the ASUS board, the incident highlights potential stability risks when applying specific memory profiles on high-end AM5 platforms.
