> Sony is reportedly building a native gaming handheld featuring a custom AMD RDNA 5 GPU and Zen 6 CPU cores to rival the mobile market.

**Sony** is reportedly developing a new native gaming handheld codenamed **Canis**, which may feature an exclusive **AMD** RDNA 5 GPU. **Digital Foundry**'s Richard Leadbetter suggests the device will utilize a combination of Zen 6c and low-power Zen 6 CPU cores with 16 compute units.

The hardware represents a major shift from the streaming-focused **PlayStation Portal**. Reports indicate AMD requires high production volume commitments for semi-custom chips, with claims of a 10 million unit threshold for an Xbox handheld, though some analysts dispute this.

This potential partnership is significant as RDNA 4 mobile hardware has yet to appear in the x86 market. By securing RDNA 5, Sony could gain a technological edge in the handheld space, provided they meet the massive manufacturing demands required by AMD's roadmap.
