has unveiled a direct retinal projection display for smart glasses featuring a 150 nm thick . This technology uses nanoscale reflectors to project images directly onto the retina, replacing bulky curved mirrors of the past.
The meta-optic mirror offers 80 percent visible-light transmittance and can be embedded into lenses using semiconductor-like processes. TDK also developed a full-color laser module and a control device capable of 4K resolution for future wearable devices.
This innovation ensures privacy as images remain invisible to others. TDK, partnered with QD Laser, Inc., will showcase the monochrome prototype at on October 13 and at in November 2026 to advance next-generation optical engines.
