Valve Adds NVIDIA Driver Support to SteamOS

Valve integrates NVIDIA drivers into the SteamOS development tree to expand compatibility for GeForce GPU users on the platform.

Valve has officially enabled NVIDIA drivers within the main SteamOS development tree, allowing select GeForce GPU generations to run on the operating system. Valve engineer Pierre-Loup Griffais confirmed this progress, marking a shift for the platform.

The company considers NVIDIA support a high priority and has a dedicated team collaborating with NVIDIA to bridge performance gaps. While Steam Deck hardware relies on AMD, NVIDIA remains the dominant GPU vendor according to the latest Valve Hardware Survey.

Valve has not announced a release date for general GeForce support on SteamOS. Griffais previously suggested that finished support might not arrive until after 2026, as the team continues to refine the experience for the broader PC gaming community.
