AMD Releases Ryzen Overclocking Driver for Linux

New Linux kernel patches introduce official Ryzen overclocking support, enabling real-time monitoring and SMT toggling via sysfs.

has released new patches introducing an official Overclocking Driver for processors. This driver exposes tuning capabilities via the standard sysfs interface, enabling real-time memory clock monitoring and initial power management controls.

The driver allows for platform-level Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT) toggling using the CPU hotplugging mechanism. This provides a flexible alternative to the 'nosmt' boot parameter. While AMD is not releasing a app for Linux, the patches are now under review.

This development enables third-party utilities like CoreCtrl to build sophisticated interfaces for Ryzen hardware. By integrating these controls into the kernel, Linux users gain granular performance tuning tools previously restricted to Windows-based environments.
