AMD is reportedly developing the Ryzen Z3, a semi-custom processor based on the Medusa design for handheld systems. According to leakers Gotou_3rd and CaptainMcShotgun, the chip features four Zen 6 cores, two low-power cores, and 12 RDNA4m Compute Units.
The Ryzen Z3 utilizes the 25 x 25 mm FF6 package, differing from the FP8 package used by Strix Point and the Ryzen Z2 Extreme. While standard Medusa Point chips feature eight Compute Units, this custom Z3 variant targets 15W, with an Extreme model at 25W.
This hardware shift introduces RDNA4m, a derivative of RDNA 3.5 that adds RDNA 4-class ALUs for matrix operations. These enhancements provide native support for FSR 4, potentially boosting performance and efficiency for the next generation of gaming portables.
