Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan confirmed the company will continue its involvement with the Terafab project, an ambitious semiconductor initiative associated with Elon Musk. The project plans to license Intel's 14A node to begin manufacturing at a campus in Texas.
Terafab managers have entered talks with TSMC regarding potential collaboration. While TSMC will not provide node IP, it may offer knowledge work for facility maintenance. Musk stated on X that the Terafab team will build and operate the site independently.
The project aims to integrate logic fabrication, memory, packaging, and testing at a single site. Terafab has reportedly started ordering essential tools from ASML, Lam Research, KLA, and Tokyo Electron, while TSMC retains an option to sublease capacity.
