Intel to Bring XMX-Accelerated XeSS to Proton

Intel is integrating XMX-accelerated XeSS into Valve's Proton layer to enhance Linux gaming performance and frame rate efficiency.

is officially preparing to bring XMX-accelerated XeSS support to 's compatibility layer. Currently, the Proton layer utilizes a version of the upscaler that lacks XMX acceleration, limiting performance potential for Linux-based gaming.

The upcoming XeSS 3.0 update introduces multi-frame generation, integrating up to three generated frames between two rendered frames. This technology can deliver a fourfold increase in frame rates, significantly boosting fluidity for high-end gaming setups.

Intel's SoC Xe3 cores feature eight vector and matrix engines with dedicated ray tracing. These engines double peak FP16 and INT8 throughput over Xe2, ensuring that hardware-level acceleration provides a massive leap in processing efficiency.
