iPhone 18 Pro Performance Boosted by Cold Soda

A DIY cooling test using a cold beverage shows a 25% improvement in sustained performance for the iPhone 18 Pro's A20 Pro processor.

Matt Birchler recently tested the Apple iPhone 18 Pro and its A20 Pro processor using a cold can of La Croix as a makeshift cooling device. During a 20-run transcription benchmark, the uncooled handset saw performance drop from 447.9 to 320 words per second.

The experiment revealed that placing the cold beverage on the device's rear improved sustained performance by 25%. While the liquid-cooled setup started at 429.5 words per second, it maintained a significantly higher average of 400.4 words per second overall.

Thermal management remains critical for mobile chips, as seen in the Redmagic 11 Pro or accessories like the Black Shark Magnetic Phone Cooler 6 Pro. This test follows previous enthusiast efforts, such as attaching SSD cooling solutions to the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
