A rare AMD Ryzen 9 5900X3D engineering sample has surfaced in CPU-Z screenshots shared by Chiphell user Lingwu Road. The Zen 3 processor features a 12-core, 24-thread configuration and achieved boost clock speeds between 4.65 GHz and 4.73 GHz during testing.
The leaked chip utilizes a dual-CCD design with a total of 128 MB of L3 cache, split between 32 MB on one die and 96 MB on the other. While AMD showcased this model at its Austin campus years ago, it only released the 5800X3D, 5700X3D, 5600X3D, and 5500X3D.
This discovery offers a look at a high-end Zen 3 variant that never reached the consumer market. The engineering sample demonstrates that AMD experimented with dual-CCD 3D V-Cache configurations for the Ryzen 9 series long before finalizing its AM4 lineup.
