SK Hynix and Intel are reportedly exploring a collaboration for memory production within the United States. Reports from Reuters indicate that SK Hynix may lease space at Intel's new facilities or establish a joint venture to enhance domestic chip output.
Intel is currently constructing new factories in Ohio, focusing on Mod 1 while performing basic work on Mod 2. Although Intel 14A was originally intended for Ohio, it will now start in Oregon, where Intel is upgrading its research site for high volume work.
The deal would optimize SK Hynix's Indiana HBM plant, which currently relies on DRAM wafers flown from South Korea. By utilizing Intel's Ohio site, which can support up to eight modules, the firms could significantly streamline the local semiconductor supply chain.
