Chinese Tech Giants Order $35B in Nvidia GPUs

ByteDance, Alibaba, and Tencent reportedly order 3 million export-compliant Nvidia RTX Pro 5500 GPUs to bolster AI infrastructure.

Chinese tech giants , , and have reportedly ordered over 3 million RTX Pro 5500 workstation GPUs, a deal valued at more than $35 billion. While the companies have not confirmed the orders, the demand for these chips is rising.

The RTX Pro 5500 is compliant with U.S. export restrictions and features 84GB of GDDR7 memory alongside the same CUDA core count as the RTX 5090. Despite its power, Nvidia may only meet 5% to 10% of demand, with global production reaching 3 million by 2027.

Priced at $11,400 each, these GPUs offer a legal pathway for Chinese firms to acquire high-end hardware. Although less powerful than H200 or B300 models, the RTX Pro 5500 remains a critical asset for the region's growing AI infrastructure requirements.
