ChangXin Memory Technologies, or CXMT, is reportedly preparing to expand its semiconductor operations from DRAM into NAND flash production. According to a Reuters report citing three sources, the firm is building an R&D line at a facility near Beijing.
The company has established a dedicated Beijing research institute for NAND development and held talks with potential customers, including an undisclosed AI startup. CXMT has not confirmed these plans, and no production roadmap or timeline is available.
This move would position CXMT alongside established NAND suppliers like Samsung, Micron, and YMTC. While DRAM provides volatile memory, NAND is essential for SSD storage, making this a significant strategic shift for the Chinese memory manufacturer.
