SK Hynix Hits Record 80% Margin Amid Memory Crisis

SK Hynix reports record profits and warns of a memory shortage until 2030, with HBM and DRAM production sold out through the end of 2029.

reported a record quarter on October 28, 2026, achieving a massive 80 percent operating margin. The company forecasts a memory shortage lasting until 2030, noting that its and production is effectively sold out through the 2029 calendar year.

Over 50 percent of production capacity for 2027 and 2028 is already allocated via long-term agreements with 14 partners. While HBM demand doubles available supply, server DDR5 deliveries rose 40 percent as average DRAM sales prices jumped by nearly 30 percent.

Market impact is severe, with 32GB DDR5 kits rising from 114 Euro in 2025 to 579 Euro by late 2026. While SK Hynix plans a new Yongin factory for 2027, CEO remains skeptical, stating a shortage lasting until 2030 is fundamentally impossible.
