User Builds $35 AI Rig with 54GB VRAM

A Reddit user repurposed nine Nvidia P106-100 GPUs from a used mining rig to run large language models at high speeds for just $35.

Reddit user markpronkin acquired a used crypto mining rig for 3,000 rubles, roughly $35, from the Russian classifieds site . The system features nine Pascal-generation GPUs, providing a combined 54GB of VRAM for local AI processing.

The rig successfully ran the mixture-of-experts model at over 30 tokens per second using . While the hardware relies on a Celeron CPU and PCIe 2.0 x1 slots, the buyer plans to upgrade to an i7-7700K system that supports up to 12 GPUs.

This $35 setup offers more VRAM than the $1,999 RTX 5090. Although Nvidia CUDA 13.0 and driver branch 580 mark the end of support for this architecture, security updates for these 2017-era cards will continue to be provided through October 2028.
