YouTuber Converts Laptop DDR5 RAM for Desktop Use

Blighted Agent successfully modified 32 GB of SO-DIMM memory into desktop RAM, achieving stable overclocked speeds of 7800 MT/s.

YouTuber Blighted Agent successfully converted 32 GB of laptop memory into functional desktop RAM for a total cost of $175. The project began with two 16 GB DDR5 SO-DIMM sticks purchased on Facebook Marketplace for $120 to serve as the donor hardware.

The conversion required $55 in extra parts, including new DDR5 DIMM PCBs and heatsinks from . Using a preheater, the creator removed the BIOS, SPD, and eight memory chips from the laptop sticks before reballing and soldering them onto the new PCBs.

The DIY kit proved highly capable, reaching an overclocked frequency of 7800 MT/s at CL38. After 90 minutes of stability testing, the converted memory functioned without blue screens during normal use, demonstrating a successful hardware modification process.
