AMD Gainsborough APU Leak Hints at Steam Deck 2

A new AMD engineering sample featuring six cores and 9600 MT/s RAM has surfaced, signaling a major performance leap for handheld gaming.

A new Gainsborough APU engineering sample has surfaced on OpenBenchmarking, revealing key hardware specifications. The chip features six CPU cores and twelve threads with a 2.4 GHz base clock, paired with 24 GB of LPDDR5 RAM running at 9600 MT/s speeds.

The engineering sample achieved 3,508 points in Furmark at 1024 x 768 resolution. For comparison, the current uses a four-core APU with 16 GB of 6400 MT/s RAM, which scored 3,323 points in the same benchmark at a 1280 x 800 resolution.

This Gainsborough APU is now identified as a potential candidate for the upcoming Valve Steam Deck 2. The significant increase in core count, memory capacity, and RAM speed suggests a major performance leap for the next generation of handheld gaming PCs.
