AMD Raises GDDR6 Memory Prices for AIB Partners

AMD follows Nvidia in increasing memory costs for board partners as supply constraints and geopolitical factors impact the GPU market.

AMD has reportedly increased prices for GDDR6 memory supplied to its Add-in Board partners as of October 1. This shift follows a similar pricing adjustment by Nvidia in July, which impacted both GDDR6 and GDDR7 cards amid rising global component costs.

The market is currently facing significant supply constraints, particularly for the RTX 5090, which has become difficult to find at major U.S. retailers. Rumors suggest Nvidia may have halted RTX 5090 production to prioritize high-demand AI data center GPUs.

Broader geopolitical factors are also influencing hardware costs, with the war in Iran driving up prices for essential components like PCBs. These increases come as the RTX 4090 marks its fourth anniversary, signaling a volatile period for GPU availability.
