Atari Announces THE 800XL Modern Home Computer

Atari reveals THE 800XL, a modern 8-bit recreation featuring 25 built-in games and a mechanical keyboard, set for release in April 2027.

Atari announced THE 800XL on October 8, 2026, a modern recreation of its 1983 8-bit home computer. Designed by Retro Games Ltd. and distributed by PLAION REPLAI, the hardware features a full-sized mechanical keyboard and a functional cartridge slot for users.

The system includes 25 built-in games like Asteroids and M.U.L.E., plus hidden titles Castle Crisis and Super Breakout. It supports software from the Atari 400, 800, XL, XE, and 5200 lines, featuring HDMI output, four USB ports, and a 30-second rewind tool.

Priced at $219.99, pre-orders are open now with shipping starting April 23, 2027. The package bundles THECXSTICK joystick, HDMI, and USB-C cables, offering a high-fidelity revival of the original 64 KB machine with modern save slots and Atari BASIC built-in.
