Microsoft Expands Advanced Shader Delivery to PCs

Microsoft is bringing its cloud-based shader delivery to Intel, Nvidia, and Qualcomm GPUs to eliminate long PC game compilation times.

Microsoft is expanding its Advanced Shader Delivery service to PCs equipped with Intel, Nvidia, and Qualcomm graphics hardware. Currently exclusive to AMD Radeon GPUs, the cloud-based system distributes precompiled shaders to eliminate local compilation.

DirectX program manager Wendy Ho notes the service reduces compilation times from minutes to seconds, offering a 95% reduction in burn time. Support for more Windows devices arrives in October 2026, following its debut in the Gears of War: E-Day title.

The technology addresses a major PC gaming pain point by streamlining how GPUs render lighting and effects. Developers must integrate support into titles, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 confirmed as the next major game to adopt the cloud delivery.
