TSMC Starts Pilot Production of 1.4nm A14 Chips

TSMC begins A14 process pilot production in Taiwan, targeting a 2028 mass production launch for its next-generation 1.4nm technology.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has officially commenced pilot production for its next-generation 1.4-nanometer technology, known as the A14 process. Operations are currently underway at Hsinchu Science Park and Central Taiwan Science Park's Fab 25.

The A14 process offers a 10% to 15% speed boost and a 25% to 30% reduction in power consumption over N2 technologies. TSMC reports that A14 yields are ahead of schedule, with mass production slated for 2028 followed by the A13 node, which enters volume production in 2029.

This advancement secures TSMC's roadmap for high-performance computing. The upcoming A13 node will be compatible with A14 design rules while reducing die area by 6%, ensuring a steady progression in semiconductor efficiency and density for future hardware releases.
