Indie Game Demo Sees 20x Growth, AI Costs Surge

Easy Fox secures a bank loan to cover rising AI costs after its voice-controlled game demo goes viral on Steam, reaching 431 peak players.

Easy Fox's game demo, Teach My Little Sister How To Drive, has experienced a massive surge in popularity on Steam, growing 20 times beyond expectations. The title reached a peak of 431 players on October 1, up from an average of under 10 in late August.

The voice-controlled game utilizes Google Gemini for processing, with ChatGPT Realtime Mini 2.1 as a fallback. High traffic caused Gemini to hit usage limits, leading to daily AI costs exceeding $1,000 and forcing the developer to secure a bank loan to stay online.

To manage future costs, Easy Fox will include AI usage in the final game price rather than charging per token. The studio is also testing local AI models for high-end hardware and alternative systems for Russia following a strike on a major data center.
