PC Games Hardware recently tested a modded Turing-based GeForce RTX 2080 Ti purchased from Alibaba. While the original GPU features 11 GB of GDDR6 VRAM, this custom variant doubles that capacity to 22 GB by utilizing 2 GB GDDR6 memory modules.
Benchmarking revealed significant gains in VRAM-intensive titles. At 1440p with DLSS Quality, saw a 29% boost, while Spider-Man 2 improved by 22%. At 4K with FSR Frame Generation, these gains jumped to 73% and 64% respectively for the card.
The extra memory also accelerated AI workloads compared to the stock 11 GB model. However, the upgrade is not universal; titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Gears of War: E-Day, and Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced showed no performance boost at 1440p resolution.
