Custom RTX 5090 Mod Replaces 16-Pin Connector

A Reddit user has developed a custom PCB conversion for the NVIDIA RTX 5090 that uses four 8-pin PCIe connectors to improve thermal safety.

Reddit user u/DallasGrave has developed a custom power connector conversion for the RTX 5090 Founders Edition. The modification utilizes four 8-pin power connectors soldered to a custom PCB, which attaches directly to the card's power contacts.

The system operates independently or alongside the stock 16-pin connector and includes fused connections. Testing at 800W on a shunt-modded card showed the PCB reaching 45°C, a 20°C drop from standard setups, with current per conductor reduced by nearly 50%.

While the mod requires advanced soldering expertise, a mail-in installation service is planned for a storefront opening this December. Future versions of the module may include active monitoring and current-limiting features for enhanced safety.
