Brazilian modder Fmklab has successfully built a custom GeForce RTX 3070 Ti featuring 16GB of GDDR6 memory. The project involved transplanting an RTX 3070 Ti GPU onto an ASUS TUF RTX 3070 board, replacing the original HC14 memory chips with HC16 modules.
The modified card boots into Windows and passes MATS memory testing, with GPU-Z identifying it as a 16GB GDDR6 model. Fmklab utilized Late Engineering Sample firmware to enable the configuration, providing a UNIGINE Superposition result as proof of stability.
While launched the retail 8GB GDDR6X card in 2021, 16GB variants appeared in early leaks and prototypes. This mod realizes that unreleased design, trading the retail card's 608 GB/s bandwidth for the 512 GB/s seen in previous 16GB GDDR6 prototypes.
