MSI RTX 5090 Connector Melts During DLSS 5 Test

An MSI RTX 5090 connector fused after power draw surged to 613W during a specialized DLSS 5 rendering test in NBA 2K27.

A new report from Videocardz highlights a melted-connector incident involving an GeForce RTX 5090 Gaming Trio OC. Documented by a reader named erek, the GPU's 12V-2x6 connector plastic fused to the socket during a specialized DLSS 5 Neural Rendering test.

The failure occurred while running NBA 2K27, the only game currently supporting DLSS 5. GPU-Z logs revealed that the card's power draw surged from 450 W to a sustained 613.5 W, exceeding its 575 W rating. The hardware stopped functioning shortly after this peak.

This case adds to a growing list of RTX 5090 connector failures across various workloads. has not yet commented on this specific hardware failure or the significant increase in power consumption associated with the new DLSS 5 rendering technology.
