NVIDIA RTX 5090 GPUs Repurposed for AI Servers

Technicians in China are dismantling RTX 5090 cards to harvest chips and GDDR7 memory for high-density AI server deployments.

A large inventory of GeForce RTX 5090 GPUs has been discovered in a Chinese factory, according to a video shared by HKEPC. Technicians are reportedly dismantling these cards, including Founders Edition and ROG Astral models, to repurpose components.

The process involves removing the GPU chip and 32 GB of memory from the original boards. These components are then installed onto custom PCBs featuring dual-slot blower-style coolers, specifically designed for deployment within high-density AI servers.

This conversion trend highlights the intense demand for AI hardware despite the ROG Astral model's $10,000 price tag. While these cards are being stripped for parts, NVIDIA recently refuted rumors that the RTX 5090 series has been discontinued globally.
