Developer Sword has released PS5SX2 version 2.01, a native port of the PCSX2 PlayStation 2 emulator for jailbroken PS5 consoles. The update adds beta support for physical discs, allowing users to insert PS2 media directly into the console for the first time.
The emulator copies the disc to internal storage upon first insertion to launch the game. While version 2.01 supports the internal drive, version 2.02 adds USB drive support. Note that the PS5 hardware cannot read CDs, so CD-based PS2 games are unsupported.
This milestone enables PS2 titles to run at 6x native resolution on PS5 hardware. As Sony plans to end disc production by 2028, Sword is now shifting focus toward an RPCS3 port for the PS5, which is expected to include similar physical PS3 disc support.
