Valve Releases SteamOS 3.8.28 Stable Update

SteamOS 3.8.28 improves raytracing performance, expands handheld hardware support, and fixes audio issues for Final Fantasy 14 players.

Valve has released SteamOS 3.8.28, a stable update for its Arch Linux-based operating system. This version introduces an updated Mesa graphics driver to boost raytracing performance and features revised VRAM management for improved system efficiency.

The update expands hardware support to third-party handhelds like the MSI Claw and OneXPlayer, while fixing wake-up performance bugs on AMD discrete GPUs. It also resolves HDMI audio dropouts and launcher black screens for Final Fantasy 14 and Zenless Zone Zero.

SteamOS 3.8.28 adds initial support for the Valve Steam Frame wireless adapter and a new battery icon to track power supply deficits. Additionally, Steam Machine firmware 108 addresses sleep mode issues and ensures the splash screen appears earlier during boot.
