New reports from leakers Kepler_L2 and MLID indicate that chipsets for the PlayStation 6 and Xbox Helix have officially taped out. Production for these next-generation consoles is currently scheduled for Q2 2027, marking a major milestone in their development.
The Xbox Helix reportedly features 56 TFLOPS, a 40% advantage over the PlayStation 6's 40 TFLOPS. Sony's console likely utilizes 52 active Compute Units at 3.0 GHz. The Xbox Helix also boasts 42% more silicon, 20% more memory, and supports third-party stores.
Rising costs are a concern, with the PS6 bill of materials jumping from $760 to $960. Sony's CEO expects high memory prices through 2027. Consequently, the Xbox Helix may exceed $1,000 at retail, despite a projected $900 manufacturing cost at scale.
