Valve Open-Sources Lepton for Steam Frame

Valve has released the Lepton compatibility layer on GitLab to help developers port Android VR games to the Steam Frame hardware.

Valve has officially open-sourced Lepton, a new compatibility layer designed to run Android games on the Steam Frame. Formally announced in March 2026, the project is now hosted on Valve's GitLab repository for developers to access and contribute to directly.

Lepton utilizes components from Waydroid, Anbox, Halium, and Hybris, combining Valve's custom code with the Android Open Source Project. It functions by mounting host system libraries, including graphics drivers, Steam libraries, and Vulkan layers for users.

The release coincides with the new Steam Frame Verified program requirements. By providing this tool, Valve aims to help game developers efficiently port VR Android titles to the Steam Frame, expanding the ecosystem through robust cross-platform compatibility.
